The Triple Helix

The Executive Board consists of a diverse group of student leaders from various majors. These leaders are selected for their vision, enthusiasm, innovation, leadership, and dedication to The Triple Helix. Together, they ensure the continued success of The Triple Helix's existing programs and pioneer new initiatives.

EXECUTIVE

STEPHEN YU, President
Class of 2017
Major: Biological Sciences, Economics

Stephen Yu is a third year undergraduate student studying the biological sciences and economics from Los Altos Hills, California. He is an active member of UChicago’s Pre-Medical Students Association, serving as the Health Professions Conference Coordinator. Furthermore, he co-founded a startup working on a proprietary real-time RFID-based tracking technology to be implemented in the civil aviation industry. Stephen also works as a Cardiology researcher in the lab of Dr. James Liao, studying the effects of phenolic compounds on rho-kinase activity. In his free time, Stephen enjoys volunteering at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club and the University of Chicago Medical Center as well as swimming and weight lifting.

 

AYGUL GALIMOVA, Vice President
Class of 2018
Major: Mathematics, Physics

Aygul was born in Ufa, Russia but now resides in Oregon. She is a second year majoring in math and physics who intends to focus on neuroscience. Aygul joined the Triple Helix the winter of her first year and became actively involved soon after. Outside of school, her interests include outdoor activities, music, amateur photography, dance, and hobbyist programming. CLARA SAVA-SEGAL, Scientia Co-Editor-in-Chief

Major: Biological Sciences, Psychology

Clara is a third year in the college studying Psychology and Biology. She intends to go into neuroscience research looking at childhood brain development. She is a Co-Editor in Chief of Scientia.



 

 
 


JEREMY CHANG, Scientia Co-Editor-in-Chief
Class of 2018
Major: Biological Sciences

Jeremy first began working with The Triple Helix as an E-Pub writer in the Winter Quarter of his first year. Since then, he has worked as a Scientia writer, Scientia associate editor, and E-Pub associate editor. Jeremy currently performs pharmacogenomics research with Dr. R. Stephanie Huang at the University of Chicago Medicine and works with Dr. Sonia Kupfer at the Cancer Risk and Prevention Clinic.

 

 
 

NILA RAY, Managing Editor of Scientia
Class of 2019
Biological Sciences

Nila Ray is a second year pre-med student from Arkansas pursuing a major in Biological Sciences. She is currently a Managing Editor for Scientia and joined TTH during the Spring quarter of her first year. She is a research assistant for Huang Lab in the Institute of Molecular Engineering and does work focused on immunosuppression and T cell interactions. Outside of school, she enjoys volunteering as a brother of Alpha Phi Omega, tutoring kids at Kumon, and exploring around Chicago and going on food crawls.

ALIYA MOREIRA, Editor in Chief E-Pub

Aliya is a fourth-year student at the University of Chicago studying Biology and Psychology. She became involved with The Triple Helix in Fall of 2013 as an Associate Editor for the UChicago's E-Publishing Division, subsequently serving as Managing Editor in 2014. As EIC, she hopes to expand E-Pub to encompass a wider and more diverse range of topics from a scientific perspective. Outside of TTH, Aliya works as a research assistant the Toxoplasmosis Research Center and is the Internal Co-President of UChicago's GlobeMed chapter.

TIMA KARGINOV,Web Manager

Major: Biological Sciences

Tima Karginov joined Triple Helix his first year as a writer for EPub as well as a member of the productions team. Tima does research in the Roux lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He questions why we write in the third person for bios and spends a lot of time running with his cross-country/track team at UChicago.

EVENTS

JONATHAN CHUANG, Events Coordinator
Class of 2017
Major: Biological Sciences, Psychology

Jonathan is a third-year pre-med undergraduate student majoring in the biological sciences and psychology. He was born in Massachusetts, but he now lives in Taipei, Taiwan. Jonathan first joined The Triple Helix this past spring as an events coordinator. In addition to TTH, Jonathan is currently working in a pediatric neuroscience laboratory investigating the neuroprotective efficacy of a specific copolymer, however, he plans on switching to an immunology lab in the Institute of Molecular Engineering within the next two months. Although Jonathan is a pre-med student, he is interested in pursuing consulting following graduation. Outside of class, he enjoys weightlifting, playing tennis, trading stocks, and ice skating.
